"I had a much higher heart rate before I did so much swimming," says Hunter-Reay, who attributes his cardio-strength to both oceanic conditioning and the deliberation it has taught him. IndyCar Races, which stretch hundreds of miles and demand incredible concentration, are ultimately tests of endurance, and having a heart up to the task means there are no distractions when the finish line nears.
