The quickest way to get discovered is to make yourself a target. So don't go spreading on the mustard too thick: Think security by obscurity. "Here's the rub: You can't be a know-it-all, " Carton says, "so you have to massage [your newfound knowledge] into the conversation." Besides, even if you're on a roll, no one likes ball-hogs, trash-talkers, and showoffs, and in the world of sports chatter, no one likes the guy who is selfish. "He's a loser," he says. "That guy does not leave his house; he lives in the basement of his mom's house."
