If you're confident, you can attempt to trim your beard using a comb and scissors, but for consistency and ease, you should invest in some quality clippers (click here for our ratings of the best beard trimmers), especially if you're just going for stubble. Also pick up a pair of small, very sharp, high-quality scissors for daily trimming of those nagging loose, flyaway hairs. Likewise a pair of sharp tweezers will help with dig out the inevitable ingrown hair.
