Keep Your Dog's Coat Healthy
While every dog differs in the amount of allergy producing proteins it carries, Dr. Judy Morgan, a vet based in southern New Jersey, says that a healthy coat often equals fewer allergens. "A drier coat is going to result in the shedding of more skin cells and dander," she says, adding, "you need to get that dog and that dot's coat as healthy as possible."
Her recommendation is to feed your dog the highest quality canned dog food you can afford or to cook for your dog yourself. Opt for something that's fish or duck based to load up on omega three fatty acids, which are known to help grow a luscious coat. She also suggests supplementing your dog's diet with additional omega three and hyaluronic acid supplements, which she says can help alleviate dry skin.
