McAlpin starts with pants on the bottom. "Then I would put jacket on top of that, dress shirt on top of that, and then I roll up all my knit items," she says. She recommends bringing the pant legs around to form the top layer of clothing in order to avoid creases, using rolled items to avoid lines at the knees. She suggests alternate directions when packing multiple pairs of pants in order to avoid having a "whole stack of waistbands on one side."
