Strategize the hive’s location.
Location of your hive is important for both your bees and anyone living nearby. Honey bees need to have some sunlight so that they’ll go out in the winter but too much sun can make them leave the hive in weather that is too cold, causing them to freeze. Bees tend to fly the shortest paths to food and water, so consider attempting to figure out the route they would take before you bring them in. Try to avoid having them fly over cars (they defecate why they fly and that can leave stains) and consider putting a fence or tall tree near the start of their path so they gain altitude quickly, avoiding unwanted interactions with your neighbors.
