'Men's Journal' asked a handful of top American menswear designers to talk about where they've been – and what they've seen – that gets their creative juices flowing. From the north woods to the hip streets of Europe, here are the places setting the tone for new collections.
"Right now, I'm really inspired by this idea of Maine," says Michael Bastian. "Maine is one of the last American wildernesses; if you look at it on a map, much of the population is in the southern tip. I'm from way upstate New York, right on Lake Ontario, right in the woods. With my last collection, it was all about the idea of Maine and the last American wilderness. We're so conditioned to think of unexplored America as being out west, but there are parts on the East Coast that remain un-navigated, and the deep Maine woods really fascinate me right now."
