Sherpa-Trouble on Everest
Director Jennifer Peedom has created a wonderful film detailing the happenings on Mt Everest from the viewpoint of the Sherpa people, the backbone to nearly every successful Himalayan expedition. The timing of this film could not be better, since the last two climbing seasons has ended in tragedy for this close-knit community. The eyes of the world are upon them. Director Peedom and crew happened to be on Everest when the massive avalanche swept through the Khumbu Icefall in 2014, instantly killing 16 Sherpas, and leading to their subsequent boycott of the climbing season. It is a movie that will make you think long and hard about the ethics — and future — of climbing Everest.
