1. Iron Man 3
Iron Man 3 is practically one 120-minute explosion. But the one that takes the cake is the Mandarin's destruction of Tony Stark's cliffside home. Missiles take out its supports, and it crumbles, burning, into the ocean.
After the crew of the Enterprise face off against Khan's Black Ship in space, Khan's supervillain vehicle falls to Earth in spectacular fashion, taking out famous San Francisco landmarks like Alcatraz before plowing through the city, leaving fiery destruction in its wake.
3. Pacific Rim
When you're pitting giant robots versus giant kaiju beasts, destruction is a foregone conclusion. But the battle in Hong Kong – wherein Jaeger Gipsy Danger literally flings boats at the kaiju – is the most insane.
4. Man of Steel
Superman and General Zod's fight – which mostly involves them flinging each other through buildings – levels both Smallville and Metropolis, which looks like an apocalyptic wasteland by the time the film is over.
In the terrorists-invade-the-executive-mansion action flick White House Down, both the Capitol Building and Air Force one all get blown up in a spectacular fashion.
WINNER: Pacific Rim. When it comes to blockbuster explosions, the more over-the-top, the better.
