Since 1978, this Mayberry-like burg of 800 has hosted UFO Days the final weekend every July. Sure, there's mutton busting (kids riding sheep) and UFO cheeseburgers (with sauerkraut), but the signature event is Sunday's parade with saucers and marching little green men.
The Sightings: In the 1970s, sightings were so numerous that city fathers proposed a multi-million dollar UFO landing strip. The most discussed of the dozens of sightings was 30-year police veteran George Wheeler's encounter with a hovering craft above the limestone quarry on Tuttle Hill. When he called it in, the glowing object shot up in a bluish flash and Wheeler's squad car, lights and radio went dead.
