For the Best App Selection
Android fanboys will no doubt bristle at this point, but Apple's App Store remains the best source of stable, malware-free smartphone apps. What many see as censorship — that Apple has to approve software before it's available to download — still looks like effective curation, with easy-to-browse lists that include staff picks and themed collections. Android and Windows apps are often presented in similar ways, but the paucity of quality software gets depressing fast, and, too often, you wind up drowning in a sea of random shovelware, or unable to download something because you're running an older, incompatible version of Android, with no clear way of updating to the newest one. Open-source apps certainly sound like the more heroic approach. But, for now, the good guys are making a mess, while Cupertino's iron fist and slick presentation continues to crank out quality apps, and a quality app-picking experience.
