Weather could change everything.
On any given day, there are a lot of contributing factors to a solid halfpipe run, ranging from the expected (such as quirks of the pipe design) to the not-so-standard (such as the weather). Given the placement of the pipe on the mountain in Sochi, no one quite knows what to expect. "I hear that the halfpipe is at a weird elevation spot, where it's almost snowing, but kind of raining," says Simon Dumont, considered the godfather of freestyle skiing. "So it's a mix of sleet, rain, and wetness." Dumont doesn't seem worried, however. "It's still all about who had the best halfpipe run that night," he says.
