Before CES 2015 (the world's largest Consumer Electronics Show) gets officially underway in Las Vegas, there's CES Unveiled, billed as preview for the entire show. In fact, Unveiled is more like a frantic group press conference, as scores of companies debut their products to any reporter who pauses long enough at a given booth. After scouring the ballroom at the Mandalay Bay in Las Vegas, we found 10 newly announced products worth keeping an eye on. From ambitious blue sky ideas in search of crowdfunding to smart little gadgets you can pick up later this month, here are some of the most innovative products we've seen so far.
DJI Inspire 1 Camera Mount
We were expecting drone-maker DJI to pull the tarp off of a brand new flying robot. What they actually brought to Unveiled might be even cooler. The Inspire 1 Camera Mount is essentially a tiny steadicam, taking the same gimbal technology that both steers and stabilizes the 4K camera slung underneath the company's Inspire 1 drone, and putting it in your hand. Motors in the camera's mount smooth out your own movements. The effect is unreal, completely eliminating hand-shake, no matter how quickly we spun and tilted the rig. You can attach a smartphone to work as a viewfinder, and to access a huge range of capture features, such as exposure and framerate control. The model we tried out was a prototype, and DJI hasn't said how much the mount will cost, or how soon it will be released. But when it is, filmmakers both amateur and professional are going to lose their minds. [dji.com]
