4. The Edge (1997)
This David Mamet-scribed classic tells the story of a photographer (Alec Baldwin) and a billionaire (Anthony Hopkins) stranded in the Alaskan wilderness who battle a predatory grizzly, and each other. The bear is eventually killed when it falls upon a wooden spear planted in a crevasse. "They've got tough hides, but a sharp and tough enough stick will go right through there," Ciarniello explains. "It all depends on how they fall on it." The way the bear attacks the two men without provocation is also possible, but unlikely. "A predatory bear could be highly aggressive, and kill people without what we'd consider provocation. Though bears are always more likely to withdraw from human contact. There are tons of people in the backcountry, and a lot of people living on Kodiak Island where the Kodiak bears are, yet there are very, very few attacks."
