A slice of mid-90's pap in which two kids search for their father in the southern Alaskan wilderness. They're aided in their quest by "Cubby," a polar bear they rescued from poacher Charlton Heston, whom a local Native American refers to as their "spirit guide." Though polar bears only reside in the northern part of the state, Cubby appears throughout the film, popping up at just at the right moment to rescue the children from life-threatening situations. This scenario, Ciarniello says, wouldn't happen. "No. We try to humanize everything, but that's not the way bears work. They're not going to follow a human around or save a human, anything like that."
