8. The Bear (1988)
Based on James Oliver Curwood's 1916 novel The Grizzly King, the film tells the story of an orphaned bear cub who befriends a bullet-wounded adult male grizzly, helping him lick his wounds before the elder bear takes the youngster under his wing. This makes for a nice family picture, but it doesn't fly with Ciarniello. "There are researched cases where adult females have adopted orphaned cubs, but a wounded bear or older bear? I doubt it. And in the movie this was a male bear? That scenario is highly unlikely. I'd have to go with a no for all those." One scene depicts the adult grizzly having mercy on a cornered and cowering poacher. Again, this would be a wild animal having a human response, which just doesn't happen.
