When we recommend sun-soaked, warm-weather destinations - say, on the beach or in the jungle – the daily temperature usually tops off at 90 F. Anything above this is just unpleasant. Some places, however, are worth seeking out even though they're so blistering hot you'll have to prepare yourself to be uncomfortable. For these 10 worthy hot spots – with average temperatures well over 100 F – bring lots of water, sunscreen, a good hat, and, if you can help it, have a room with air conditioning.
Marum Volcano, Vanuatu
One of the most active volcanoes in the world, Marum is located on Vauatu's island of Ambrym. The volcano's bubbling lake of fire reaches more than 2,000 F and is surrounded by an ash plane rising out of lush rainforest. No one's more aware of the heat than photographer Geogg Mackley, who rappelled into the volcano in 2010. We recommend that you enjoy the view from outside the crater.
