Whether it involves a food fight, mermaids or a torch-lit procession, people the world over know how to have a good time. Here are some of the biggest, boldest, booziest celebrations around, along with some tips to get the full experience.
King's Night: Amsterdam, Holland
When Queen Beatrix stepped aside in 2013, King Willem-Alexander assumed the royal position and ended nearly 125 consecutive years of Queen's Day celebrations. Despite its transition to King's Day, this annual birthday party for the Dutch Monarchy has happily preserved the time-honored tradition of celebrating excessively the night before, fittingly known as King's Night. Amsterdam is unsurprisingly the place to be, but don't get too carried away: Public imbibing is allowed, but only one drink at a time. The police will confiscate any additional containers.
