When it comes to high-alcohol bruisers, few breweries do a better job than San Diego's AleSmith. Weighing in at 11-percent ABV, this fruity barleywine (think raisins, plums) is as sticky as caramel candy and packs an agreeable jolt of bitterness. Numbskull only gets better with age if you can manage to stash a bottle away.
