Route: London to Brighton Return
Distance: 114.4 miles
Whether it's Wiggins and Froome fever or simply the abundance of great local rides, Londoners log 1,103,488 miles in the saddle every week on Strava — more than any other city. One of their favorite ways to go the distance is this route that covers 7,769 feet of climbing from southwest London down to the outlandish seaside town of Brighton. Though it's a solid workout, this ride is more about getting away from it all on the bike than it is about hammering out the miles. It's like traveling through the pages of Pride and Prejudice as narrow roads take you back and forth between thick wooded areas and open meadows where horses graze and stone cottages dot the horizon. For the most part, you're the fastest thing out there, which is a nice change from the hurried life in London.
