Route: Portsea Return
Distance: 115.1 miles
It's easy to imagine how Tour de France champion Cadel Evans came to fall in love with the sport, having grown up in the Barwon Heads with these kinds of big beautiful rides in his backyard. The route goes along the sparkling coastline of Port Phillip Bay, past the colorful beach huts of Aspendale and pause-worthy seaside suburbs on the way out to the resort town of Portsea. It's all gorgeous terrain, but you have to work hard for the best views. Arthurs Seat is a 1.8-mile climb that averages 8.1-percent grade (with one section that reaches 20) and offers a spectacular panorama of Mornington Peninsula at the top.
