Best Mountain Bike
Winner: Alchemy Bicycle Company
Denver's Alchemy Bicycles brought its new Arktos carbon fiber full-suspension bike to NAHBS and went home with prizes for Best Mountain Bike and the popular-vote People's Choice. The frame is the first to feature a new dual-linkage suspension platform called Sine Suspension. Licensed exclusively to Alchemy, the name Sine comes from the way the shock rate resembles a sine wave when its graphed. It absorbs small bumps and provides climbing traction through the first part of its travel, is more active in the middle of the stroke to avoid wallowing on big hits or in hard, fast corners, and is then slightly regressive near the end of the stroke to enable the bike to use all 6 inches of its rear-wheel travel. It's also compatible with newer 1x drivetrains and 27.5”/650B wheelsets.
