It's the single greatest creation in American sports: 68 college basketball teams duking it out across the country to determine a National Champion. From face-painting freshmen to the guy in the office who makes pool picks based on team colors, everyone gets involved in March Madness. But not everyone wants to pore over a season worth of game footage to figure out what games and which players are worth watching. A little catch up may be in order.
With so many schools, sorting through the potential stars can be tough. There are the NBA Lottery guys the draftniks will be watching, the college heroes looking to move their programs forward, and all those hard working guards. It's a lot to figure out. That's why we put together the definitive list of must-see talent.
Fred VanVleet, Wichita State
Casual fans may have missed the Shockers' undefeated regular season, perhaps because they lack any NBA-projected talent. The keys: incredible D and guys like VanVleet, who earned Player of the Year honors in the Missouri Valley Conference. Last season, Wichita State launched a thousand punny headlines by shocking America with a run to the Final Four. This year, they're a likely 1-seed, but VanVleet, along with fellow below-the-radar standouts Cleanthony Early and Ron Baker, still has that little school chip on his shoulder.
