The Tremola Road over the Gotthard Pass, Switzerland
A train route and tunnel has long since replaced this ancient 18 mile cobblestone road that once allowed carts and stagecoaches to traverse cross over the Swiss Alps. But its impossibly scenic collection of curves and hairpin turns are meant for cruising. Pedraita says the road is closed to traffic during the winter, which is naturally when he decided to drive it. "It's the most beautiful view in the world, but extremely dangerous. You're always pretty close to sliding and you really have to concentrate and stay focused. If you fall, you need to have a parachute on."
