"The Perfect Storm " by Sebastian Junger
You've probably heard the story: a fishing boat from Massachusetts goes out the sea to do some longline fishing for swordfish, they come up against a killer storm, and end up getting very lost at sea.
Although you might be more familiar with the tale thanks to the 2000 film adaptation starring George Clooney and Mark Wahlberg, the book about the lives and fates of the crew of the Andrea Gail, and the other people impacted by the storm, is a reading experience like few others. Less an adventure, more a nightmare, but still deserving to be on this list. [$6, amazon.com]
