STDs Are Uncommon
Using data from 2008, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) estimates that nearly 20 million new sexually transmitted infections occur every year. Because of the stigma surrounding STDs, most people think they or people they know would never be among these numbers but that simply isn't the case. "Everybody is at risk, regardless of age, gender, sexual orientation, or race," says Barr. "STDs to do not discriminate." Don't think you can just look at someone and know they have an STD; many people who have them develop no symptoms.
