A booming vacation rental market means it's easier than ever to find a great basecamp for aquatic adventures. To maximize your beach rental experience, plan ahead and leverage what's already available, says Eric Breon, CEO of the Portland-based vacation rental site Vacasa. "If there's an outdoor fire pit, bring ingredients for s'mores.
Also keep the surrounding area in mind when looking for a beach rental. If you're bringing your dog, make sure that not only is the rental pet-friendly, but the beach next door is, too. If you have young kids, make sure the neighborhood isn't known for late-night parties.
And ask your property manager if he or she has any suggestions for activities in the area. These are all rented by owners that live and work in the area who are happy to point you to hidden gems.
