2016 Chevrolet Malibu
The present Malibu is already one of our favorite road trip rides. It has more steering feel and a firmer suspension than a lot of its Japanese rivals already. For 2016 (spring debut next year), it gets a sexier shape, three inches more rear seat legroom, and will also have a hybrid option good for up to a combined 47 mpg — that's better than the best diesels, and for a car of this size, very impressive. GM says it can run at up to 55 mph on battery power alone, which is relatively unusual for most hybrid setups. Chevy says they cut 300 pounds of weight in the platform, enabling them to use a very compact, 1.5-liter turbo four as the smallest gas engine. And they're predicting 37 mpg on the highway.
