America is a land blessed with scenic roads. They unravel down coasts and pull taut across the plains. They wind up mountains and ensnare glacial lakes. And, everywhere you go, they are punctuated by pullouts, those gravel or asphalt outgrowths where motorists can pull over to stretch their legs and, perhaps, take in the view. Scenery might not be the only reason to pull over, but it is the best and these are the best spots to take it all in. Just be sure your camera is in the car.
Alaska Route 3
The George Parks Highway offers incredible views of Mt. McKinley, North America's tallest peak. The road, which winds south from Fairbanks to Anchorage through Denali National Park, is a slice of modernity in an ancient landscape. At the pullover just north of Troublesome Creek, grizzly and black bears are a common sight.
