America is a land blessed with scenic roads. They unravel down coasts and pull taut across the plains. They wind up mountains and ensnare glacial lakes. And, everywhere you go, they are punctuated by pullouts, those gravel or asphalt outgrowths where motorists can pull over to stretch their legs and, perhaps, take in the view. Scenery might not be the only reason to pull over, but it is the best and these are the best spots to take it all in. Just be sure your camera is in the car.
Colorado U.S. Route 50
At this spot on U.S. 50, road trippers can take in a view of the Blue Mesa Reservoir and surrounding mountains. Colorado is long on scenic landscapes and this one is a standout. The reservoir, Colorado's largest body of water, is 20 miles long and a terrific windsurfing spot in the summer. Its size provides gawkers with the chance to watch clouds roll toward and crash over nearby peaks.
