America is a land blessed with scenic roads. They unravel down coasts and pull taut across the plains. They wind up mountains and ensnare glacial lakes. And, everywhere you go, they are punctuated by pullouts, those gravel or asphalt outgrowths where motorists can pull over to stretch their legs and, perhaps, take in the view. Scenery might not be the only reason to pull over, but it is the best and these are the best spots to take it all in. Just be sure your camera is in the car.
Nevada's U.S. Route 50
Motorists who pull off the Lincoln Highway, also known as U.S. 50, north of South Lake Tahoe are rewarded with expansive lake views. In summer, you can swim, but the landscape itself is beautiful enough to justify a winter pit stop. Lost Corner Mountain looms on the other side of the water.
