America is a land blessed with scenic roads. They unravel down coasts and pull taut across the plains. They wind up mountains and ensnare glacial lakes. And, everywhere you go, they are punctuated by pullouts, those gravel or asphalt outgrowths where motorists can pull over to stretch their legs and, perhaps, take in the view. Scenery might not be the only reason to pull over, but it is the best and these are the best spots to take it all in. Just be sure your camera is in the car.
North Carolina's Blue Ridge Parkway
The 469-mile Blue Ridge Parkway winds through Virginia and North Carolina. This pullout in Pisgah National Forest offers stunning mountain views. In the fall, you'll find beautiful foliage. In the spring, you'll find a sea of green. The view is at its best in the morning, when the forest breathes out and fog hangs over the hills.
