Honda Civic — Now with Turbocharging!
Somewhere along the line the Civic became an appliance of sorts — a really good, really reliable appliance. But Honda just announced that when the next-generation Civic debuts this coming year, it will include a segment-busting Civic Type R (likely in two years). What's just as significant is that Honda says the base motor in the Civic (which will come as both a sedan and a hatchback) will finally be a turbocharged model; some folks who modify cars love the ready access that a turbo provides to increase performance, so this new 1.5-liter VTEC Turbo engine with direct injection comes as very welcome news, even if we have to wait about a year for the new Civic. And the R? The present Type R gets a 306hp turbocharged 2.0-liter. Because Ford is bringing a Focus RS putting out about the same, we're thinking Honda might finally throw down in the compact segment.
