Cynar

Artichokes are a favorite among nutritionists as a great source of fiber and vitamin C and named on the top 10 list of the most antioxidant-rich foods by the USDA. They are also among the least likely ingredients we would consider in a cocktail, but leave it to the Italians to prove us wrong. Besides artichokes, Cynar contains a witches brew of thirteen herbs and spices. Together they create a strongly bitter flavor, and so understandably it's often consumed as an after-dinner aperitif. It's also commonly mixed with OJ for a nice mix (but then again what isn't?). It also makes a great substitute for angostura bitters in a Manhattan or an Old Fashioned. [$19 for 750 ml; camparigroup.com]
