Pot Still Whiskey
Pot stills are at the heart of whiskey, and the pot-stilled productions from some distilleries create very unique and unforgettable tastes. We like the cask strength Red Breast 12, which had notes of cake icing on the nose, but big spice over those sweet notes on the palate. An endless finish brought it full circle to a little bit of citrus and tropical fruit, with a hint of coconut. By comparison, the 18-year-old Kilbeggan's refined slightly smokey nose, tasted of rich orange zest with a touch of red fruit.
