Frigid weather meant the ground search for an Idaho-based single engine plane with five people aboard tapered off nine days after it disappeared on December 1, 2013. But the internet search kept going. New satellite images were added to Tomnod every few days – and even though the quality of some images was too poor to be useful, over 14,000 taggers completed 3 million map views. The search was ultimately a success: The missing plane was identified by a user and then located in person on January 10th. The plane's wings had been torn off in the crash and reports say even with exact coordinates the aircraft was barely visible to searchers. There were no survivors.
