When asked his cuisine of choice, McHale doesn't hesitate and begins rambling off a string of Italian restaurants in cities from coast to coast. Which makes sense, considering his upbringing: Though he moved to Seattle at a young age, McHale was actually born in Rome. "l have a bunch of family and friends there so I've been back there a number of times – we're actually going again this summer," he says. "It's one of the most beautiful places in the world and has the best food ever." There isn't enough space to recount all his favorites, but in a nod to his former hometown he did single out one stalwart location for special consideration. "My favorite place in Seattle is Matt's in the Market, in Pike Place market," he says. "It is phenomenal. They do what I'd call northwest American cuisine – a lot of fish, very imaginative."
