The Bear Selfie
In October, a shot of photographer Jacob Bean looking suitably terrified as a bear stood just a few feet behind him went viral. The rest of the world quickly struggled to catch up and snap their very own #bearselfies. It wasn't long before the U.S. Forest Service felt the need to take action, with Lake Tahoe Basin Forest Supervisor Nancy Gibson issuing a statement to remind the public that, "Bears are unpredictable, wild animals and may attack if threatened. We can’t have visitors creating dangerous situations for themselves and others. People are risking serious injury or death if they get too close to a bear." The irony of the trend? Bean's original image was Photoshopped and intended as a joke.
The Takeaway: Bears are not your friends. Photoshopped or otherwise.
