Grant Street, San Francisco
Haight Street, once the land's-end destination of flower children from every corner of the country, has become a parody of itself in recent years, Calhoun says. Similarly, North Beach's Grant Street, though still a tourist magnet, clings a little desperately to its bohemian heyday. In the Mission District, Valencia Street has upscaled so much it's in danger of pricing out all but the biggest stock portfolios. These days you probably have to head across the Bay Bridge – to the Rockridge section of College Avenue, say, or Oakland's Grand Avenue – to find the Bay Area's hippest intersection.
