Rise of the Little Guys: Micro Drone
Micro Drone 3.0, the other new palm-sized drone at the show had a lot more in common with Zano than size. Its also being developed by a UK startup (Extreme Fliers), which plans to start its own Kickstarter campaign for this new drone. Like its predecessor, the 2.0, the Micro Drone 3.0 will cost $100, with a tiny wifi-connected HD camera and other components available as add-ons. Those modules use magnetic connectors, so you can quickly attach and detach the camera, battery and other components. Even swapping out a broken rotor arm for a new one took about ten seconds, and no screws. The new model, which will be available later this year, features upgraded flight stability — it can pull off a full roll.
And if there was any question as to the public's appetite for low-cost dones, Extreme Fliers says that it's sold 60,000 of the previous Micro Drone models in the UK. Meanwhile, the Zano Kickstarter project ended with more than $3.53M in funding.
