Shopping doesn't have to be a chore and it doesn't necessitate forced pleasantries with anxious salesmen. The best places to shop are the places that are densely stocked with goods that sell themselves. Some of these spots are stores or neighborhoods full of stores and some of them are acres covered in haphazardly constructed stalls. The only thing that all of the world's best shopping destinations have in common is stuff that you'd want to buy.
Marrakech Souk, Marrakech
Why to Go: Marrakech is known for its markets, but that reputation is misleading. The reality is that Marrakech isn't a city with great markets, it's a market with some nice city attached. The best part of that market is the Souk, which is full to brimming with antiques and statement pieces that will likely look slightly worse in your living room than you think they will. There are rugs, a ton of ironwork, and pieces of art from across the Sahara. There are also scams if you're not careful. Take some time and talk to sellers. Consider it an investment.
What to Buy: Buy a small rug you can use as a welcome mat. Buyers who go crazy end up with a lot of North African furniture in their basements.
