From a Philippe Starck-designed yacht to a sci-fi schooner, these big boats are the brainchildren of billionaire bankrollers and master builders.
Venus (Steve Jobs)
A year after his death, Steve Jobs's yacht, a 257-foot, Philippe Starck-designed, minimalist hunk of aluminum named Venus – is finally finished. It cost an estimated $140 million to build. Not surprisingly, it has plenty of high-tech, including the seven 27-inch iMacs standing side-by-side on the bridge (these are used to control the boat). Meanwhile, radar, satellite, and GPS are boxed off on the roof, avoiding the unsightly bristle of a communications tower. Another distinct design touch: Venus has large glass windows on the hull, a critical structure that usually only has portholes.
