There are four things you should look for in a cycling shoe: comfort, stiffness, style and the ability to adjust them on the fly. Specialized earns top marks across the board with its latest version of the popular S-Works model, minimalist shoes that immediately caught our eye. But our expectations were exceeded the minute we slipped into these feathery-light kicks. The uppers feel paper thin, perfectly enveloping your foot as you tighten the stainless steel laces with two Boa dials, while supple footbeds keep your feet cool even in the hottest of conditions (no small feat – pardon the pun – considering you're pressing down on Specialized's stiffest ever carbon sole). In short, we were sold, but don't take our word for it – countless pros were rocking a pair at the most recent Tour de France. [$400; specialized.com]
