Hoops heads venturing to Atlanta for the Final Four may be expecting to take in the country's best college basketball, but a visit to the heart of Georgia also means a chance to take in some of the South's most excellent eats. For sure, the Big Peach has its fair share of establishments offering up old South standards, but there are plenty that take on the classics with a modern spin to wonderful effect. Fans of heaping plates of slow-cooked southern barbecue, as well as those looking for something more high-end, will have plenty of chances to get their finger licking on. Here's our picks for Atlanta's must-eat Final Six.
Holeman & Finch Public House
While the spread here includes savvy blends of Southern dishes with a modern take – think farm egg with pancetta carbonara and cornmeal fried oysters – it's the singular, limited-edition burgers that put Holeman & Finch on the map. Each night at 10 p.m. the crew at H&F handcrafts just 24 burgers, served with a house-made bun, mustard, ketchup and pickles, and a slice of American cheese (you can get them for Sunday brunch, too, but it's not the same). Arrive to get in line any later than 9:15 p.m. and you'll have to sit the night out while being tortured by the site of others relishing juicy mouthfuls of perfectly cooked ground beef.
