Beer Check-In App Untappd Launches Their Very Own Version of BeerMenus

Any beer enthusiast with a smartphone has heard of Untappd, a beer check-in app that allows its 4 million users to track, rate, and accumulate graphic “badges” for logging the beers they’re drinking and the locations in which they’re drinking. 

But despite Untappd’s addictive, almost competitive approach to beer-tracking, there was something inherently missing about its service. Sure, finding out what fellow beer nerds think about them can be helpful, but what about finding the beers you want yourself?

Enter Untappd for Business, a new platform the Chicago-based app is now offering bars, breweries, and bottle shops to better showcase the brands they carry, as well as allow consumers to “search” for beers that are in stock.

“By having thousands of businesses on the new Untappd for Business platform, Untappd users are able to find almost any beer nearby, as well as learn about upcoming beer-related events in their area,” said Untappd co-founder, Greg Avola. “And on the business side, Untappd’s partners find tremendous value from not only connecting with this audience, but also through a host of operational efficiencies.”

Untappd for Business comes after the beloved BeerMenus, a Brooklyn-based beer-search app and web service that launched in 2008 and currently hosts upwards of 28,000 businesses. Untappd's new platform (which actually launched in February) functions as a service (SaaS) platform, allowing businesses to connect with app users in their area (a la Instagram ads and Snapchat geofilters).

Business users can also take advantage of targeted promotions, customizable digital and print menus, social media integration, bulk upload of inventory lists, and analytics to identify beer trends in an area. An Untappd “core badge” will also identify a business as a verified venue, as with verified accounts on Twitter and Facebook.

Among the service's early champions is Total Wine & More, a wine, beer, and spirits superstore with locations in 18 states. "Partnering with Untappd has been a very easy process and has helped Total Wine & More increase awareness of our vast craft beer assortment,” said Total Wine's senior vice president, John Jordan. “Untappd for Business is the perfect platform to help us get more engaged with the craft beer community in California and Washington, and we are seeing sales growth.”
