Sylvia’s Restaurant, New York City
Founded by Sylvia Woods in 1962, Sylvia’s Restaurant in Harlem is a legend. She’s been crowned the “Queen of Soulfood,” and has hosted everyone from President Obama to Grandmaster Flash. Reverend Al Sharpton called Sylvia’s “more than a restaurant... it has been a meeting place for black America.” All that storied past, and the food is still historic. Nothing on the menu beats the pork chops, which are served golden fried, grilled, or smothered, and they come with two sides and the homemade cornbread.
