Brewer: Champion Brewing
Style: Czech Pilsner
“My former taproom manager, Drew, and I were both big fans of shower beers, and we agreed it should be a hoppy pilsner,” says Hunter Smith, Champion Brewing founder. Though Champion had never brewed a lager before, the brewery forged ahead with a Czech-style pilsner brewed with traditional Czech Saaz hops.
Shower beer, originally released on draft in April 2014 and now famous for its rubber ducky can labeling, turned out to be a huge success — it won a gold at the Great American Beer Festival in 2015.
As for its shower prowess, Shower Beer is “super crushable, refreshing, and easy to drink,” Smith says. “I associate a shower beer with having just cut the grass, you don’t want to be drunk right away. It should be really easy drinking, have good hop flavor that’s not overwhelming, and a lower alcohol level.”
