Chit Beer, Koh Kret, Thailand

Due to Thailand’s antiquated 1950’s Liquor Act it is unlawful for individuals to brew and distribute their own beer in the country. This makes Chit Beer, located on Koh Kret, a small island 12 miles north of Bangkok, even more of an anomaly. The open air, riverside brewery founded by an active Colonel in the Royal Thai Army is standing up to the defunct law and training a legion of home brewers while they’re at it. Chit Beer is also a “Beer Academy” where Thai students learn about the art of brewing while creating their own home brews. The crisp, golden weizen is Chit’s go-to beer, unless you’re keen to try some homebrew.
