When we think of the most expensive and exclusive vehicles produced by luxury automakers, our minds tend toward stately, extended-wheelbase executive sedans like the Mercedes S-Class or Jaguar XJ. But there was a time in the not-so-distant past – even as recently as the 1990s – when many high-end manufacturers placed a large grand tourer or personal coupe at the pinnacle of their vehicle line.
We detect a resurgence – or perhaps an insurgence – afoot in this category, with a trio of deluxe brands creating all-new, range-topping concept vehicles that contain all of the posh comforts of their biggest four-doors, but with a more driver-centric, cocooning, and sporting character, and two fewer portals. Consider yourself warned: a Coupe d'état is imminent. (Click on "View More Photos," above, to see the cars.)
