Honda Clarity Electric and Clarity Plug-In Hybrid
OK, OK, they're not all SUVs at this year's show. So while the New York show landscape is cluttered with huge, gas-guzzling SUV debuts, Honda’s two Clarity mid-size sedan debuts — a hybrid and a plug-in electric — seemed both out of place and oddly prescient. Honda’s spinning the all-electric Electric model as a roomier alternative to existing hybrid sedans like Chevy’s Bolt, though it has a fraction of the range (80 miles to a charge, estimated.) Its sibling, the Clarity Plug-In Hybrid, may find a wider audience: It pairs a 1.5-liter four-cylinder gas engine with an electric motor; the powertrain will give it an all-electric range of 42 miles, with a combined range of over 330 miles. The Electric will launch later this year; the Hybrid, in 2018.
